The Year’s Event

Alabama Activity Center

Diamond Sponsor:

It would be an understatement to say 2020 was a challenging year for our country, our state, and our community. The COVID-19 pandemic and the restrictions that accompanied it were unprecedented in our lifetimes. But in the Montgomery River Region we showed resilience, fortitude, grit, purpose, and community-spirit. We came together to share resources. We came together to educate our constituents and congregations. We came together to care for our fellow man.

It is in this spirit of community that the Board of Directors of the Samaritan Counseling Center decided to pivot from its usual recognition of ethics in business awards to recognize “heroes” that helped the River Region through the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2021 Delta version of the virus.

“Heroes” will be honored in six categories: Healthcare, Government, Non-Profits, Faith-Based Organizations, Business, and Education. We identified these heroes using private and public sources. We acknowledge up-front that this is not an exhaustive list of who stepped up to the task and that some would be omitted inadvertently in this effort. We ask for your understanding of our limitations and that this is our attempt to recognize a few individuals and organizations that stood out in the process.

The Mission

The mission of the River Region Ethics in Business and Public Service Awards (RREBPSA) is to promote ethical professional conduct for the benefit of the workplace, the marketplace, the environment,
and the community.

The awards are a program of The Samaritan Counseling Center, Inc. in collaboration with Auburn University Montgomery‘s School of Business and School of Sciences. The Samaritan Counseling Center presents these awards in order to:

  • Foster a climate of ethical integrity in the community by recognizing ethical practices of businesses, organizations, and individuals
  • Promote awareness and education concerning ethical business and public service behavior
  • Heighten awareness regarding programs and services of The Samaritan Counseling Center available to strengthen families and organizations
  • To support the healing work of The Samaritan Counseling Center, Inc. and to fund scholarships for AUM business and public administration students
